Installing Cyrillic Fonts for MS Windows
You can get both CP-1251 and KOI8-U here. However, I'd recommend you to use Microsoft's CP-1251 fonts, if you are using MS Windows--they look much better on the screen.
Ukrainian KOI-8 hasn't been standardized yet, and KOI8-R doesn't have Ukrainian characters in their usual places (or not at all). Therefore, we have no choice but to use unattractive KOI8-u fonts rather than KOI8-R supplied by the Microsoft.
Installation in five simple steps:
(1) Create a temporary directory, say, C:\Temp.
Download a zipped file (267K) cyrfonts.zip.
(2) Unzip the downloaded file in that directory using pkunzip.exe or WinZip for Windows.
(3) Using Windows Explorer, go to directory C:\Windows\Fonts.
From the menu, choose File - InstallNewFont.
Select folder (directory) C:\Temp and click SelectAll and OK buttons.
(4)
The names of the Variable width fonts you have installed are
- ER Universal 1251
-
- ER Universal KOI-8
-
The names of the Fixed width fonts you have installed are
- ER Kurier 1251
-
- ROL-K8/Courier
-
(5) Now you can just get rid of what you unzipped in your C:\Temp folder. :)
This is an edited version of Russification page by SovInformBureau. However, their service is for the Russians: "Russification", as if Russia is the only one that uses Cyrillic.
Therefore, most of their fonts do not comply with both KOI8-RU and KOI8-U standards. The fonts above are good for any language with a Cyrillic alphabet. Lets put the end to the centuries of Russification! :-)
Another site has the best, in my opinion, information about cyrillic fonts, etc..
