12th Midwest Scholastic Championship

May 13-14, 1995, 1500 meters (some of the heats were 1000 m), Eagle Creek Reservoir, Indianapolis, IN

 

The first nine heats {Boys Youth 4+(2); Girls Novice 8+(3); Girls 125# average 4+(2); Boys Novice 8+(2 of 3)} were 1500 meters and raced from starting bridge toward the finish.  Racing was then stopped due to the headwind and rough water conditions at the starting bridge and when it was resumed it was raced from the finish toward the start for a distance of approximately 1000 meters.  Racing was suspended at 7:30 p.m. due to darkness.  The remaining seven {Boys Novice 4+(3); Boys 155# average 4+(2); Boys 140# average 4+(2)}, of the 52, heats and one re-row were raced over 1500 meters on Sunday morning, though temporarily suspended due to dense fog.  Eighteen of the 35 scheduled finals were raced {the first 10 scheduled events and the remaining Varsity and Youth eights, fours and quadruple sculls with a compressed schedule requiring several crews to scratch from a second final}.  The remaining finals were cancelled due to mounting white caps driven by increasing wind.

Participants must satisfy their “scholastic eligibility” rules of their home high school.

Scholastic entries must consist of athletes that all attend the same school.

Progression changed to avoid semifinals:

   15-21 entries: 3 heats with the top two finishers advancing to the finals

   22-28 entries: 4 heats with the heat winner advancing, along with the fastest two 2nd place crews

   29-35 entries: 5 heats with the heat winner advancing, along with the fastest 2nd place crew.
